IAMI Trailblazer Award
The Institute for Advancing Medical Innovation (IAMI) Trailblazer Award is dedicated to supporting four targeted areas of clinical and translational research. We will begin accepting applications for 2019-2020 IAMI Trailblazer Awards in Spring 2019.
Trailblazer Award Application
The four eligible areas are:
- Experimental Therapeutics Trials
Eligible research activities include: a) clinical validation of a drug target; b) clinical pharmacology (e.g., drug metabolism, bioanalysis, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, pharmacogenomics, allometric scaling); c) clinical proof of concept of a novel therapeutic; or d) clinical proof of concept for a repurposed FDA-approved or abandoned drug. Eligible awardees must have demonstrated proof of principle in validated in vitro and/or in vivo preclinical models.
- Precision Medicine Informatics
Eligible research activity includes the interrogation of existing genetic, genomic, proteomic, and metabolomics data combined with clinical data to develop precision medicine approaches to treating diseases
- Biomarker Discovery and Validation
Eligible research activities include: a) biospecimen collection; b) patient registry development; c) genetic, genomic, proteomic and metabolomic analysis of patient specimens, and d) analysis of patient specimens using established and investigational methods to discover and validate biomarkers of drug activity.
- Entrepreneurship Activities Consistent with IAMI's Mission
Eligible research activities defining the investment thesis for potential product development opportunities including unmet medical need, proposed solution, market, competitive landscape, patent position and strategy, summary of existing data, product development and regulatory planning, marketing and licensing strategy, as well as support for obtaining key opinion leader input, will be supported.
The Frontiers IAMI Trailblazer Award seeks applications from all diseases and encourages clinical and translational research projects that are integrated across the lifespan, across Frontiers institutions, and across CTSA hubs. Proposals for a Frontiers IAMI Trailblazer Award will be reviewed by the IAMI and Frontier leadership and selection will be confirmed by the Frontiers Operations Group, a leadership group that represents all the institutional partners of Frontiers.
Please be sure to identify the specific aim(s) that map to one of the four eligible areas described in this announcement. Proposals should include the following sections: background, significance, specific aims, and innovation/benefit. There are no page requirements, but succinct protocols are encouraged. Generally four to six pages in length is adequate.
A total of $50,000 each year is available, but considerations of awards for lesser amounts are highly desirable, especially if the Frontiers IAMI Trailblazer Award can be used to match or leverage additional resources. Indirect/Facilities and Administration costs are not allowed for Frontiers Trailblazer awards.
All funds awarded for 2018-2019 must be spent by June 30, 2019.
